Boots UK extends HPV vaccinations to male patients

19th April 2017

Boots UK has announced the launch of a new human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination service that will be accessible to male patients.

The new private service will complement the current NHS HPV cervical cancer vaccination programme for 12 to 13-year-old girls, meaning men and teenage boys will also be able to protect themselves against the cancer-causing virus.

HPV is typically perceived as a female health issue, but four out of five sexually active men and women will be infected with the virus at some point during their lives.

Boots UK's vaccination service will be available in 68 stores in major towns and cities across the UK, with the vaccine protecting against nine HPV types, including those responsible for 90 percent of cervical cancers, HPV-related anal cancers and genital warts.

Richard Bradley, pharmacy director of Boots UK, said: "This is a fantastic example of how community pharmacists can use their clinical skills to support patients' health in locations and at times that are convenient to them."
