Boston Scientific agrees takeover of EMcision

Boston Scientific has announced the acquisition of EMcision, a medical technology company based in the UK and Canada.

This takeover will allow Boston Scientific to expand its endoscopy portfolio with the addition of the Habib EndoHPB probe, a novel endoscopic bipolar radiofrequency device that coagulates tissue in the gastrointestinal tract to help treat pancreaticobiliary cancers.

To date, EMcision's products have been used in the treatment of thousands of patients worldwide with difficult-to-treat forms of cancer, for whom surgery is not an option.

Art Butcher, senior vice-president and president for endoscopy at Boston Scientific, said: "We are committed to exploring innovative options to help increase the chance of early diagnosis, improve treatment and advance the ability to remove cancers located in challenging areas of the gastrointestinal tract."

Boston Scientific's endoscopy business offers a broad range of devices and solutions for the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal and pulmonary diseases. The firm is developing a range of devices to expand the field of minimally-invasive endoluminal procedures as alternatives to conventional surgery for the removal of precancerous lesions.
