Boston Scientific and Asahi Intecc announce product collaboration

21st August 2014

Boston Scientific has announced a series of new joint development and manufacturing programmes with the Japanese firm Asahi Intecc.

The companies have formalised plans to develop a new, differentiated fractional flow reserve (FFR) wire, with the aim of creating a device that can offer improved handling compared to existing FFR wires.

Additionally, they will partner on a project to make key enhancements to the Boston Scientific RotaWire Atherectomy Guidewire, with Asahi Intecc providing components for a new version that offers improved control and handling.

Boston Scientific anticipates that both specialty wires will be commercialised in 2015.

Kevin Ballinger, president of interventional cardiology at Boston Scientific, said: "The Asahi Intecc expertise in guidewire technology is unparalleled. By leveraging the strengths of our technologies, we have the opportunity to create truly differentiated products."

During the second quarter of 2014, the firm achieved a four percent year-on-year increase in sales, coming in at the higher end of its expectations for the period.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801743872-ADNFCR
