Boston Scientific completes Cameron Health takeover
Boston Scientific has completed its takeover of Cameron Health, capping a relationship between the two organisations lasting almost a decade.
The acquisition has been valued at around $150 million (96.77 million pounds) and will help the company to bolster its presence in the cardiac rhythm management sector.
Cameron Health is the developer of the S-ICD System, the world's first commercially available subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), which has been implanted in more than 1,300 patients worldwide.
Because it sits just below the skin, it leaves the heart and blood vessels untouched, a significant advantage for many patients.
Hank Kucheman, chief executive officer at Boston Scientific, said: "Boston Scientific now provides physicians and their patients with an option to choose either the industry's thinnest, longest-lasting transvenous ICD or the world's first and only commercially available completely subcutaneous ICD."
Last week, the company was granted US regulatory approval for new 32 mm and 38 mm length options for its Promus Element stent system.
