Boston Scientific launches second annual Connected Patient Challenge
Boston Scientific has announced the launch of its second annual Boston Scientific Connected Patient Challenge, with a focus on digital health.
The open competition aims to generate innovative approaches to tackling complex healthcare challenges, with this year's contest focusing on the role of data analytics and big data in optimising patient care and healthcare efficiency.
Entrants will compete for up to $50,000 (41,140 million pounds) in in-kind support to advance their submitted concepts, with entries to be hosted on the medical social media platform Medstro to allow members of the community to ask questions, share feedback and vote to advance submissions to the latter stages.
Finalists will present their ideas to fellow participants, a live audience and a panel of judges in Massachusetts in February 2017.
Dr Dave Knapp, vice-president for corporate research at Boston Scientific, said: "Big data is about using technology to analyse and understand huge volumes of healthcare-related data routinely generated … and turning it into actionable intelligence. We hope to inspire new digital health solutions with this event."
The inaugural Connected Patient Challenge was held in March 2016. Co-sponsored by Google, it focused on the role of remote patient monitoring technologies in influencing health outcomes.
