Boston Scientific wins lawsuit over IP dispute

29th March 2018

Boston Scientific has won a legal dispute with Edwards Lifesciences over a new aortic valve stenosis treatment.

The company alleged that Edwards had breached its intellectual property with the rollout of its Sapien 3 device.

Boston Scientific therefore took legal action and judges ruled in its favour, prompting Edwards to take the case to the UK Court of Appeal.

However, Edwards' appeal was dismissed and the original decision was upheld.

Desiree Ralls-Morrison, senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary at Boston Scientific, said the company is pleased to see another positive ruling from the courts, as it "further substantiates" its intellectual property.

"We see the UK court's decision as an important validation of our patents and supports our goal to bring differentiated solutions to patients suffering from severe and symptomatic aortic valve stenosis," she commented.
