Bristol-Myers Squibb supports Bavarian Nordic on new Opdivo drug trial

16th August 2016

Bristol-Myers Squibb has signed a new drug supply agreement with Bavarian Nordic as the latter company undertakes a clinical trial assessing Opdivo in a new indication.

Under the terms of the deal, Bristol-Myers Squibb will supply Opdivo to Bavarian Nordic for use in a clinical study enrolling approximately 160 patients that will explore the benefits of combining the drug with CV301 in patients with previously treated non-small cell lung cancer.

Prior clinical studies have shown that CV301 is able to enhance the immune response against tumour targets. Opdivo, meanwhile, is already approved for the treatment of patients with non-small cell lung cancer in the second-line setting, among other indications.

Bavarian Nordic will retain its commercial rights for CV301, with Bristol-Myers Squibb under no obligations beyond the contribution of drug material for the trial.

Paul Chaplin, president and chief executive officer of Bavarian Nordic, said: "While we have discussed the potential benefit of combining our cancer vaccines with checkpoint inhibitors for some time, this is now within reach, as we have once again been able to strike an agreement with the leading immuno-oncology company in the world."

This comes after Bristol-Myers Squibb recently allied with Janssen to study a new combination of JNJ-64041757 and Opdivo for the treatment of lung cancer.
