BVA elects new chairmen to policy committees

7th December 2010

The British Veterinary Association (BVA) has elected new chairmen for two of its standing committees.

Fred Landeg will become chairman of the Veterinary Policy Group (VPG) and James Yeates is set to perform the same role for the association's Ethics and Welfare Group (EWG).

Mr Landeg was formerly the government's chief veterinary officer and received a CBE in 2008, while Mr Yeates is a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons diplomate in animal welfare science, ethics and law.

Both positions were filled by the BVA after Richard Harvey and Peter Jinman reached the end of their three-year terms as chairmen of the VPG and EWG respectively.

Mr Landeg said the association provides a "coherent public voice" for the diverse range of skills contained within the British veterinary profession.

"The VPG is a key component in developing BVA policy," he added.

According to a statement released last month, the association is set to hold elections for its primary representative body, the BVA Council, between January 10th and February 18th 2011.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800277768-ADNFCR
