Cambridge Laboratories announces staff promotions

21st January 2008

Cambridge Laboratories has announced the promotion of Dr Andrew Duffield to the position of head of product development and regulatory affairs, while also promoting Dr Philip Nichols to the role of chief medical officer and head of clinical development.

In addition to his current job of heading the regulatory affairs department, Dr Duffield will also have increased responsibilities for drug discover and phase I clinical development of new compounds previously discovered by the firm.

While retaining his previous role of head of clinical development, Dr Nichols will also act as chief medical officer at the firm, continuing to oversee the progress of the company’s central nervous system drug candidates through the later stages of clinical development.

Mark Evans, chief executive of Cambridge Laboratories, said: “The expansion of Dr Duffield and Dr Nichols’ roles is in line with our substantial increase in investment of cash and resource for 2008 and beyond.”

He added that this decision also highlights the company’s continuing commitment to develop a strong drug development pipeline focused on diseases affecting the central nervous system, an area he described as one whose medical needs are currently unmet.

In April 2007, Cambridge Laboratories announced the establishment of two distinct oncology and central nervous system business units as part of its restructuring of commercial operations in the UK.
