Care services minister unveils new innovation scheme

7th May 2008

A new social enterprise scheme to help improve local services has been announced by care services minister Ivan Lewis.

Mr Lewis confirmed that the second round of the Department of Health Social Enterprise Investment Fund would include a new element this year that will encourage the development of collaborative solutions to health and social care needs through social enterprise.

Such a project will take place through the Innovation for Life Challenge Fund and Mr Lewis said this fund was testimony to the government’s confidence in social enterprise as part of the solution to creating world class health and social care services.

“Increasingly, we are seeing social enterprises delivering the innovative and personalised services that people rightly expect. That is why we have set up this new scheme as part of the £100 million Social Enterprise Investment Fund,” said Mr Lewis.

The Department of Health works with a number of social enterprises to create benefits for health patients.
