CEM presents scholarship award in honour of chemist

13th May 2008

CEM has announced that the company hosted the 2008 Stacey Palasek Memorial Scholarship Dinner last week.

Dr Michael Collins, chief executive of the scientific solutions for laboratory systems firm, presented a $5,000 (£2,500) scholarship award to Alexa Rose Noxon of South Mecklenburg High School, at the event in Charlotte.

"This scholarship was established in honour of a very talented lady who had an ardent love of science," said Dr Collins.

"I think Stacey would have been thrilled to see the enthusiasm and potential shown by all of our finalists – they will undoubtedly have bright futures in their chosen fields."

The firm established the scholarship – open to female high school seniors showing a passion for science – after the unexpected death of female research chemist Stacey Palasek in 2006.

Another three finalists also received cheques for $500 each at the presentation dinner alongside Mrs Palasek’s husband Matthew and company officials.

The organisation claims to be the leading provider of microwave laboratory instrumentation and has subsidiaries worldwide.
