Ceva launches guide on antimicrobial use
Ceva Animal Health has launched a practical and easy-to-use guide on antimocrobial use in cats and dogs.
The 500-page guide, entitled Guidance for the Rational use of AntiMicrobials (GRAM), has been written by a panel of ten independent experts in areas such as microbiology, dermatology and pharmacology.
Andy Forsyth, senior technical veterinary advisor at Ceva Animal Health, commented: "Antimicrobial resistance continues to be a concern in both human and animal health.
"GRAM will help educate veterinary professionals on how they can play their part in creating sustainable antibiotic use."
The guide contains 37 disease fact sheets, along with 29 practical recommendations and six reference synopses.
Among the topics addressed are the best therapeutic approach to take while waiting for results, how to deal with multidrug resistant infections and how to limit the development of resistance when using antibiotics.
Ceva Animal Health added that GRAM will provide tools for improved diagnosis and positive treatment outcomes.
