Ceva shares its commitment to biodiversity at Veterinary Green Discussion Forum

21st June 2023

Ceva recently updated its “Together, beyond animal health vision” with an expanded commitment to “develop innovative health solutions for all animals, contributing to the future of our diverse planet”.

Addressing the conference, Martin Mitchell, Ceva’s chief sustainability officer described how the company’s new business purpose was generating actions led both by central policy decisions but also through employee-led working groups, which focus on five areas, including biodiversity, animal welfare and One Health.

Ceva first committed to become a One Health company over 12 years ago and this has seen a radical change in its product portfolio with preventative health products (largely vaccines) now making up over 50% of its sales from 28% at that time.

As part of its commitment to biodiversity, Ceva has for several years invested in projects to preserve endangered species – including the Amsterdam Island Albatross, the Bordelaise Cow and Australia’s iconic Koalas. The company took this a stage further last year by creating an independent endowment fund – the Ceva Wildlife Research Fund that will support research projects focused on improving wildlife health.

With three in four new emerging human diseases coming from animals and 72% of those from wildlife, if we are to be prepared for the next pandemic, then it will be essential to be more proactive in addressing the challenges posed by increased interaction with wild animals.

Recently appointed North Europe director, Roy Geary said: “When I arrived at Ceva, I was very encouraged to see the company was so engaged in so many projects to enrich biodiversity. We want to expand this even further in the UK as not only is it the right thing to do, but it is also critical to motivating our employees who closely associate with these actions.”

The Forum’s founder, well known veterinarian, Anthony Chadwick said: “We had two very special days at the second annual Veterinary Green Discussion Forum. Meeting up with passionate, committed individuals who care about our natural world always gives me a boost. Martin’s presentation was excellent and demonstrated the importance that Ceva places on care for people, animals and the planet.”
