Choose and Book hits 10m landmark

19th August 2008

Over ten million people have now made an electronic booking for their GP using the Choose and Book system, it has emerged.

The NHS reports this milestone figures come a year after the five-million booking mark was reached in 2007.

It adds patients are now able to use the system to book the place, date and time of an appointment which is most convenient for them.

According to the health service, more than 90 per cent of GP practices have used Choose and Book in the past six weeks, with around half of all outpatient referrals to see a specialist booked using the system.

Furthermore, all NHS acute trusts now use Choose and Book.

Dr Stephen Miller, national medical director of the system, said: “I am very excited to have reached the ten millionth electronic booking.”

He added this landmark is a significant one because it shows the good progress of the system, which is now becoming the primary method of referral.

Last month, a survey of primary care services from the Healthcare Commission revealed a growing number of patients have been completely satisfied with the care received in GP practices and health centres.
