Church and Dwight’s sponsored award to be presented

20th March 2009

Church & Dwight’s sponsored Research in Oral Biology Award will be presented to Dr Christopher McCullough on April 1st.

Since 1994, he has been a professor at the University of Toronto’s faculty of dentistry and now the honour recognises his “outstanding” research in the oral biology field.

Dr McCullough will receive a monetary prize and a plaque at the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) 87th General Session & Exhibition.

Currently, Dr McCullough has produced more than 200 publications on an array of topics. These include mechanisms that regulate the fibroblast cytoskeleton and collagen remodelling in the periodontium.

He has also focused studies on the responses of fibroblasts to inflammatory cytokines and mechanosensory signals.

The research Dr McCullough has been involved in has led to advances such as the first automated periodontal probe and guided tissue regeneration.

Clinical studies linking metalloproteinases and progression of periodontitis have also resulted from his work.

A non-profit organisation, the IADR has 11,300 members who are dedicated supporting the oral health research community, among other things.
