Colgate-Palmolive leads toothbrush and toothpaste market in Q2 2017
Colgate-Palmolive has maintained its strong leadership position in the global toothbrush and toothpaste market during the second quarter of 2017.
The company's global market of the toothpaste market grew to 43.6 percent for the year to date during the quarter, while for manual toothbrushes this figure stood at 32.8 percent for the first six months of the year.
This was achieved despite the company as a whole facing a challenging period during Q2 2017, recording worldwide net sales of $3.83 billion (2.93 billion pounds) – a year-on-year decline of 0.5 percent.
Organic sales were roughly even with the year-ago period, when excluding the impact of foreign exchange, acquisitions and divestments. Tough trading conditions in North America and Asia-Pacific were cited as causes of the current challenges.
Ian Cook, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Colgate-Palmolive, said: "Based on current spot rates, we continue to expect a low-single-digit net sales increase for 2017, and given our slower-than-expected first half, we are now planning for low-single-digit organic sales growth for 2017."
