Colgate-Palmolive reports strong results for fourth quarter of 2017

29th January 2018

Colgate-Palmolive has announced its financial results for the fourth quarter of 2017, during which it generated a net sales total of $3.89 billion (GBP 2.76 billion).

This represents a year-on-year increase of 4.5 percent, with sales advancing by two percent in organic terms, driven by healthy volume increases across Latin America, North America and Europe.

During 2017, Colgate-Palmolive increased its spending on advertising, a trend that is expected to continue during 2018 as the firm seeks to introduce new products.

Colgate's leadership of the global toothpaste and manual toothbrush markets also continued during the quarter, meaning it now accounts for 43.3 percent and 32.6 percent of sales in these markets, respectively.

The company is now forecasting a mid-single-digit net sales increase and low-to-mid-single-digit organic sales growth in 2018, with improved momentum compared to the second half of 2017.

Ian Cook, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Colgate-Palmolive, said: "As we look ahead to 2018, while uncertainty in global markets and category growth worldwide remain challenging, we are maintaining our heightened focus on brand building and increased productivity."
