ConvaTec reports positive Hydrofiber trial data

28th May 2010

ConvaTec has published new data which demonstrates the advantages of its Hydrofiber gel-based dressing technology compared to alternative products.

According to results from the in vitro study, Hydrofiber dressings containing ionic silver have been shown to be more effective in eliminating Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria than silver-containing foam dressings.

This illustrates the product’s efficacy in the treatment of chronic wounds, which can often be rendered difficult to treat due to the presence of colonising bacteria.

In addition, it was also observed that simulated wounds using the Hydrofiber dressing showed a decrease in the spread of bacteria beyond the edge of the wound.

ConvaTec now plans to present this data to other industry professionals at the 20th Conference of the European Wound Management Association this week.

In December 2009, ConvaTec was presented with the Surgical Manufacturer of the Year title at the UK Alliance Healthcare Pharmacy Awards, in honour of its work with the pharmacy sector.
