Cook Medical announces passing of company founder

Cook Medical has announced the death of William Alfred Cook, the founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Cook group of healthcare companies.

Mr Cook passed away on April 15th 2011 from congestive heart failure at the age of 80, almost 50 years after establishing the business from an apartment in Bloomington, Indiana in 1963.

A statement from the company has confirmed that it will retain its status as a privately-held corporation following Mr Cook's passing, with his son Carl set to take over in the CEO role.

The firm highlighted the significant role played by its founder in the advancement of the medical technology sector, as well as his numerous contributions to philanthropic endeavours.

Steve Ferguson, chairman of the Cook group, said: "It was through his unique vision, persistence and dedication that Cook grew into a compassionate and caring global company for patients, customers and employees."
