Cook Medical launches new breast reconstruction devices

11th October 2010

Cook Medical has announced the launch of two new devices for use in reconstructive surgery for mastectomy patients.

The Biodesign Tissue Generation Matrix is a biologic graft-based innovation which helps to encourage rapid tissue remodelling in the body, allowing breasts to be reconstructed in an aesthetically-pleasing way that leaves behind no permanent material.

Meanwhile, the Biodesign Nipple Reconstruction Cylinder provides a scaffold for the re-establishment of nipple projections, helping to give them a natural feel and thickness.

Andy Cron, vice-president and global business unit leader of Cook Medical's surgery division, said these represent important new options for what can be a difficult procedure to undergo for many patients.

He said: "We are pleased to introduce Biodesign to the plastic surgery community and believe this new approach to breast and nipple reconstruction will deliver superb results."

Last month, the company was granted approval for the European launch of the Zenith Dissection Endovascular System, which is used in the minimally-invasive repair of type-B aortic dissections.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800108884-ADNFCR
