Cook Medical launches new NavAlign system in Europe

13th April 2010

Cook Medical has launched a new inferior vena cava (IVC) filter delivery system called NavAlign in Europe.

The medical device company introduced the device to the European market at the Charing Cross International Symposium at Imperial College, London, where it also highlighted its safety and efficacy benefits.

NavAlign works with the Cook Celect and Gunther Tulip filters and uses a haemostasis valve to reduce blood loss when inserting the devices, which help to prevent pulmonary embolisms by filtering blood clots.

It also incorporates features such as a multipurpose dilator, radiopaque sizing marker bands and flushing sideports, which contribute to reduced fluoroscopy time.

Mark Breedlove, director of peripheral intervention strategic technology at Cook Medical, said: “Cook has been perfecting its IVC filter platforms for the last three decades and with the introduction of NavAlign, we hope to advance our pedigree in this area.”

Last month, the company introduced the Injekt VUR Injection Needle, an endoscopic treatment designed to help correct the urinary condition vesicoureteral reflux among children.
