Cook Medical launches new Zilver Vena trial

12th April 2013

Cook Medical has announced the launch of a new study assessing the benefits of its Zilver Vena venous self-expanding stent.

The Vivo clinical trial will evaluate the safety and efficacy of the device in the treatment of symptomatic iliofemoral venous outflow obstruction, a condition characterised by leg pain, throbbing, swelling and skin discolouration in the legs.

It is set to enrol patients aged 18 and over who suffer from pain in their legs that limits their ability to carry out normal activities, with primary study results to be evaluated one year after stent placement.

Vivo will be the first ever iliofemoral venous stent trial to be carried out in the US.

"This is an important trial which is intended to objectively assess the endovenous correction of symptomatic iliofemoral vein stenosis with a stent designed for this specific purpose," said global principal investigator Dr Anthony Comerota from Jobst Vascular Institute in Toledo, Ohio.

Last month, the company announced the launch of a new suite of salivary duct access products, which offer minimally invasive options for the treatment of obstructive salivary gland disease.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801570998-ADNFCR
