Covidien completes transition to new needle

19th December 2008

Covidien has said it has confirmed the immediate availability of its new Magellan Safety Hypodermic Needle.

The modified design, available for shipping to customers, is in stock – the company added – and the previous model is no longer being produced or sold.

Running since October this year, Covidien said it has liaised with customers in the development of the new needle.

Jeff Hunt, president or patient care and safety products at the company, said the feedback on the Magellan Safety Hypodermic Needle has been “extremely positive”.

He added: “We have increased capacity to allow for a smooth transition with our existing customers and this expansion has enabled us to meet the growing demands of the safety needle market.”

The company noted it had not changed price points, product codes or contracts with other organisations and distribution partners as a result of the transition.

Covidien added this was so there were no interruptions to the service.

Earlier this month, the company’s Hi-Lo Evac endotracheal tube was named part of Premier Healthcare Alliance’s Quest Comparative Innovation Programme.

The product is designed to ensure continuous aspiration of subglottic secretions to reduce ventilator-associated pneumonia.
