Covidien launches new V-Loc wound closure device

1st June 2010

Covidien has launched a new addition to its V-Loc wound closure range which is designed to be more effective and fast-acting than previous versions.

The V-Loc 90 is the successor to last year’s V-Loc 180 and offers knotless tissue repair via a unique and proprietary self-anchoring loop and barb combination, allowing dermal wounds to be closed quickly.

It uses faster absorbing material than the V-Loc 180, meaning that absorption can be completed within 90 to 110 days.

Michel Therin, vice-president of soft tissue repair and biosurgery at Covidien, stated that this fast absorption following the crucial wound healing period after surgery will lead to better results for patients.

He added: “With this new addition to our knotless wound closure portfolio, surgeons have an even broader array of choices for closing surgical incisions safely, quickly and effectively.”

Last month, Covidien released the SILS Stitch instrument, a precise new articulating suturing device for advanced laparoscopic surgery.
