Covidien supports inaugural World Thrombosis Day

13th October 2014

Covidien has announced its support for the public health event World Thrombosis Day, which is being held for the first time today (October 13th 2014).

The company has agreed to act as a global partner for the inaugural campaign, organised by the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis to highlight the burden and the risk of morbidity and mortality associated with venous thromboembolism (VTE).

One of the top three cardiovascular killers worldwide, the disease is a common and potentially deadly disorder that is underdiagnosed, despite being preventable using a number of techniques, including intermittent pneumatic compression.

Brian Verrier, president of Covidien's peripheral vascular division, said: "The sponsorship of World Thrombosis Day builds on our investment in educational campaigns such as the One in 1,000 programme to educate both patient and healthcare professionals about the frequency and severity of VTEs."

The One in 1,000 campaign is named to indicate the odds of VTE occurring in pregnant women, and is dedicated to ensuring proper risk assessments are carried out among this at-risk patient group.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801754003-ADNFCR
