Covidien’s Tri-Staple passes $1bn sales milestone
Covidien has announced that its Tri-Staple technology platform for endoscopic surgical stapling has passed a key commercial milestone.
Since its introduction in mid-2010, the product range has accumulated more than $1 billion in sales, while medical professionals have voiced satisfaction with the outstanding clinical performance offered by the technology.
Tri-Staple products enable surgeons to use staplers in a broader range of tissue thicknesses than ever before, with applications in fields such as bariatric, thoracic, colorectal, general, hepatobiliary and gynaecological surgery.
Covidien plans to continue investing in and expanding the Tri-Staple portfolio, with the recent launch of iDrive Ultra coming as part of this strategy.
Bryan Hanson, group president for surgical solutions at Covidien, said: "We are extremely pleased with the positive feedback from surgeons regarding their stapling experience and the performance of the Tri-Staple technology."
This comes after the company announced the acquisition of US-based medical technology firm CV Ingenuity last month, a deal that is expected to close in the first quarter of this year.
