Daiichi Sankyo allies with Max Planck Innovation and Lead Discovery Center

Daiichi Sankyo has announced a new cancer-focused collaboration with Max Planck Innovation and the Lead Discovery Center.

This agreement gives Daiichi Sankyo an option to receive exclusive rights to a new lead compound for the treatment of cancer, which will be discovered and developed at the Lead Discovery Center.

The work will build on new transcriptional regulation insights from Max Planck Institute scientists, as well as leveraging the Lead Discovery Center's expertise in the design of highly selective kinase inhibitors, to tackle cancer cell transcription and proliferation.

Daiichi Sankyo and the Max Planck Society will jointly fund the drug discovery efforts. Once the project has achieved proof-of-concept in relevant in vivo models, the pharmaceutical company will receive exclusive rights to licence the programme for clinical development.

All three partners have expressed a desire to expand their collaboration into additional programmes in the future.
