Daiichi Sankyo certified for hypertension programme

18th December 2008

Daiichi Sankyo has announced that a disease management programme for hypertension that it developed according to specific guidelines has been certified by a national committee.

Entitled Under Pressure, the scheme was launched in 2006 to encourage partnerships between healthcare providers and managed care organisations.

The programme urges patients to be more involved in their treatment and cardiovascular health management by highlighting the ways exercise, diet and medication can be used.

Those involved also receive advice and educational mailings including a DVD and mail-outs.

Certification from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) means the initiative has been reviewed and judged to meet evidence-based and objective high standards of healthcare.

The NCQA said it sets the bar high for awarding this honour in order to encourage continuous enhancement of programme quality.

Hypertension or high blood pressure is included in the NHS’ key targets as it is classed as a “major” risk factor for aortic aneurysms, coronary heart disease and stroke.

The Department of Health says a key part of its targets is to raise awareness and encourage people to know what their own blood pressure is.
