Danone announces HIV trial breakthrough

16th September 2009

Danone, the French-founded firm that conducts research into human health, has revealed that it has made a breakthrough in one of its trials related to HIV-infected patients.

As part of its efforts to branch out into the market for health-related product development, the company said that an ongoing study has made a significant discovery in the targeting of immune systems of HIV carriers, reports the Financial Times.

This, it added, could lead the future development of a nutritional product aimed at immunity reinforcement.

A further product it is currently researching is a drink with the potential to improve the lives of those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, the news provider informs.

“The evidence is now building that medical nutrition may be able to make a difference in the lives of patients not only in HIV but across a broad spectrum of immune-related conditions,” explained Flemming Morgan, president of Danone’s division Nutricia.

In related news, the firm announced in July that it intends to increase its presence in their field of nutritional advice in the long term.
