Danone meets expectations for growth during first half of 2017

1st August 2017

Danone has met expectations for its financial performance during the first half of 2017, with growth in baby food revenue helping to offset weaknesses elsewhere.

The consumer goods giant recorded net profit of 977 million Euros (£873 million pounds) in the six months to June 30th, up from 880 million Euros. Operating profit on a recurring basis exceeded market expectations, rising 16 per cent on the same period last year to 1.72 billion Euros.

Sales grew by 0.4 per cent over the six-month period, but Danone said this “low start to the year” was “as expected”. Chief executive officer Emmanuel Faber attributed the corporation’s performance to “specific emerging markets’ headwinds and challenges in Europe and in North America”, noting that growth in specialised nutrition in China and dairy brands in Europe helped offset any decline.

One highlight for the company was sales of baby and medical nutrition products, which rose 5.4 per cent to 3.45 billion Euros.
