Dechra launches 1.25 mg version of Felimazole
Dechra has announced the launch of a new dosage option for Felimazole, its long-established treatment for feline hyperthyroidism.
The 1.25 mg tablet joins the existing 2.5 mg and five mg options and has been developed following requests from veterinary specialists to enable greater precision and flexibility when prescribing the therapy.
Endocrinology experts recommend that the dose of antithyroid medication of this kind should be titrated to obtain circulatory total thyroxine concentrations in the lower half of the reference interval. This new dosage option will make this easier to accomplish.
Dechra Veterinary Products' brand manager Craig Sankey said: "This new product allows increased precision and flexibility in the treatment process when titrating optimal Felimazole doses."
Felimazole has been licensed for veterinary use for the treatment of feline hyperthyroidism in the UK for more than a decade.
The launch of the new product comes after the company last month introduced Cyclo Spray, a versatile new antibiotic spray for use on cattle, sheep and pigs.
