Dechra launches new antibiotics with SmartTab technology

29th April 2016

Dechra has launched a new range of antibiotic products that have been specially designed to help encourage more responsible use.

The innovative SmartTab tablet technology allows tablets to be easily divided into equal halves or quarters to ensure accurate dosing and avoid risking the development of antibiotic resistance associated with under-dosing.

Meanwhile, its natural meat flavouring encourages animals to accept the tablets, ensuring the full course is completed. Additionally, the blister packs make them quick and easy to dispense, reducing unnecessary exposure when dispensing in practice.

The first additions to this range include Metrobactin, the first veterinary-licensed metronidazole tablet for anaerobic infections, and Amoxibactin, the only flavoured double-divisible amoxicillin tablet for urinary, reproductive and airway infections.

Dechra hopes this will help vets engage with responsible antimicrobial stewardship and ensure these therapies retain their efficacy for as long as possible.

Larry King, marketing manager for Dechra in the UK and Ireland, said: "SmartTab's innovative features will play a large role in the effective and responsible use of antibiotics. Dechra will be progressively introducing further antibiotics featuring SmartTab technology to support practices when dispensing antibiotics."ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801817674-ADNFCR
