Dechra launches new medicine for bacterial disease in chickens

8th May 2017

Dechra has announced the launch of Phenocillin, a new treatment for a common bacterial disease affecting broiler chickens.

Designed to be added to drinking water, the product is indicated for the treatment and metaphylaxis of necrotic enteritis caused by Clostridium perfringens, utilising the active ingredient phenoxymethylpenicillin.

Although the condition can be treated with a variety of therapeutic antibiotics, narrow-spectrum antibiotics such as phenoxymethylpenicillin are widely considered to be the first-choice option.

Key benefits include its lactose-free composition and high solubility, making it ideal for concentrated stock solutions and convenient for modern poultry farming, while it also offers zero withdrawal time to ensure that egg production is unaffected.

Emma Jennings, brand manager at Dechra, said: "Phenocillin is a highly effective treatment and we anticipate it will become the preferred solution for veterinary professionals and end users to treat this disease, which can very suddenly devastate broiler flocks."

This is the latest addition to Dechra's SoluStab range, which also includes the Soludox, Octacillin, Solamocta, Solacyl and Metaxol brands.
