Dentists ‘more attractive to mortgage lenders’

6th February 2008

Dentists are among a group of professional Britons who could be offered a more attractive mortgage by lenders, an expert has asserted.

Richard Clark, head of product development and marketing for Scottish Widows, said a “core group” of the country’s professionals – such as doctors, dentists and lawyers – are often offered larger mortgages.

Such professionals are considered to “represent a lower risk” to their creditors, he continued.

Mr Clark noted that this is because “basically we know that in the future they will have high-earning potential and therefore paying off a large mortgage will not be a problem for them – or is less likely to be a problem anyway”.

Provider GoDirect states that professional mortgage schemes mean such workers can borrower at higher levels than it would normally allow.

It explains that is also offers professionals 100 per cent mortgages or an interest-only mortgage as it appreciates newly-qualified workers face an incremental salary scale.
