DePuy Joint Replacement Technology Awarded UKCA Accreditation

9th May 2023

The VELYSTM Robotic-Assisted Solution has so far been introduced in seven markets deemed essential in expanding DePuy’s current position and has now taken another significant step on its path to worldwide development with the UKCA Mark recognition.

Macroeconomic conditions including an ageing and expanding population have fueled the increasing need for mechanically assisted total joint replacement therapy. Almost one fifth of those who have received a knee replacement say they were dissatisfied with the results.

A consultant orthopaedic surgeon, Mr Benjamin Bloch, said that “this technology could potentially improve efficiencies and outcomes for patients. Better outcomes mean fewer patients returning in follow-up clinics or for revision surgery, which gives you more time to treat the thousands of new patients on the waiting list.”

The table-mounted VELYS Robotic-Assisted Solution provides surgeons with the level of autonomy they are accustomed to and enables them to continue using their favourite methods during operations.

It can also be used alongside the ATTUNE Knee System, which has been proven to enhance patient-reported results by providing mobility and support in alignment with the individual’s anatomical structure. Collectively, they raise the bar for patient satisfaction and improve the knee replacement procedure.

Johnson & Johnson’s MD for MedTech in the UK & Ireland, Hugo Breda, explained that “the ATTUNE Total Knee and the VELYS™ Robotic Assisted Solution is highly differentiated” and “a more attractive clinical solution that any other option on the market right now.”
