DH appoints new medical director for revalidation

The Department of Health (DH) has formally unveiled Dr Anita Thomas as the new medical director of the NHS Revalidation Support Team.

Currently working as a consultant in acute medicine at Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, Dr Thomas is due to take up her new role on June 1st.

The expert was a founding member of the Peninsula Medical School and previously chaired the training committee of the Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board.

Health secretary Andrew Lansley welcomed her decision to accept the role, describing it as "a key leadership appointment which will help shape and support revalidation".

He added: "Dr Thomas has vast experience in medical education, training and fitness to practice performance procedures."

Dr Thomas will carry out her new duties for three and a half days each week, as well as continuing to work as a hospital consultant in Plymouth.

Mr Lansley also announced the appointment of Peter Sands and Chris Pilling as non-executive members of the DH board. They will join existing non-executives Mike Wheeler, Catherine Bell and David Heymann.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800549858-ADNFCR
