DoH announces secondment of HFEA head

17th September 2007

The Department of Health (DoH) has announced the appointment of Angela McNab on a six-month secondment to the department as a director of public health performance and delivery, with Ms McNab due to take up this position at the start of October this year.

Currently chief executive of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), Ms McNab will return to her usual position after her secondment at the DoH.

While at the department, Ms McNab will aid Sir Liam Donaldson in his efforts to guarantee the development of appropriate systems to boost health improvement and reduce inequalities as part of the public health agenda of the government.

Sir Liam said: “Angela brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience of the healthcare sector, and has a strong track record of delivering change at a high level.”

He added that Ms McNab is taking on this position at a vital time and will help the DoH build on existing successes, being a valuable new member of staff who will aid the realisation of its public health objectives.

The HFEA has reported that health service manager Alan Doran, currently director general of departmental management at the DoH, will join the HFEA as interim chief executive during this period.
