Ed Miliband criticises government over NHS reforms

4th April 2011

Labour leader Ed Miliband has expressed his objection to the moves being undertaken by Conservative leader and prime minister David Cameron to modernise the NHS.

On April 1st 2011, the Department of Health announced a number of new steps taken as part of ongoing efforts to reinvent the health service.

They include a 200 million pound annual fund for cancer drugs, to help make sure fewer people are denied groundbreaking treatments due to the cost.

Meanwhile, GPs covering around 90 percent of the nation's patients have now registered for a scheme that allows them to directly commission services based on their own opinions of how they will help boost health levels in their area.

But Mr Miliband said the previous day that the changes currently being proposed are part of a "reckless reorganisation" of the NHS.

"In defending your reorganisation, you have sought to misrepresent the arguments of those opposed to your changes and misrepresented the performance of the NHS," he added in an accusatory letter to the prime minister.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800486045-ADNFCR
