Eisai and Forma to collaborate on drug discovery

17th November 2010

Eisai has agreed a new drug discovery partnership with Forma Therapeutics, which is expected to augment the firm's ability to identify new therapies for complex targets.

The agreement will provide Eisai with non-exclusive access of Forma's diversity-oriented synthesis chemistry-generated compound library and cell-based screening platforms, in exchange for upfront payments and funding over three years.

It will also grant Eisai the option to initiate a technology transfer of Forma's cell-based screening platform to further support its new drug pipeline.

Eisai expressed confidence that this will allow it to incorporate new technologies based on both organic chemistry and biochemistry, thereby advancing its research efforts in key areas such as oncology.

The company added: "Eisai believes that the collaboration with Forma will allow for synergistic capabilities that lead to the creation of breakthrough treatments to satisfy unmet medical needs."

Earlier this month, Eisai was granted approval from the Scottish Medicines Consortium for its epilepsy treatment Zebinix to be used as an add-on therapy among specific patient groups.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800240449-ADNFCR
