Eisai and Global Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases announce alliance

16th March 2011

Eisai has agreed a new partnership with the Global Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases relating to the planned donation of drugs to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The Global Network is to provide advocacy support for Eisai as it fulfils its November 2010 commitment to provide 2.2 billion tablets of the lymphatic filariasis drug diethylcarbamazine (DEC) to the WHO between 2012 and 2017.

Assistance will be offered on the planning, reporting and implementation of the donation, thus helping Eisai to forge stronger ties with the agencies and foundations with which it will be dealing.

Moreover, the agreement with the Global Network will also encompass technical advice on future neglected tropical disease initiatives, allowing the pharmaceutical firm to enhance its engagement with this key issue.

Dr Neeraj Mistry, managing director at the Global Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases, said: "We are eager to work with Eisai to promote and amplify its crucial DEC donation to the WHO that will dramatically help to eliminate the burden of lymphatic filariasis."

Earlier this week, Eisai stated that it will be making a financial donation to support earthquake relief efforts in its native Japan.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800464319-ADNFCR
