Eisai and Mamorio to create tracking tool for dementia patients

8th August 2016

Eisai has partnered with another Japanese healthcare company, Mamorio, to create a new tool to help track the movements of people with dementia.

The Me-Mamorio device is a small tag that makes use of Bluetooth technology. It is intended to be carried by people with dementia, with positional data sent to a server when they pass by people in the community with the corresponding app on their smartphones.

This data is automatically transmitted to care workers, family members and other designated individuals, allowing them to move freely and independently while remaining safe.

Under the terms of the deal, Eisai and Mamorio will conduct a demonstration experiment to ensure Me-Mamorio can continue to be developed with cooperation from stakeholders including the Japanese government, healthcare professionals and care workers.

The company said its aim with the project is to ensure "people with dementia preserve their individuality and go out freely in the places they are used to living in with peace of mind and safety, as well as build an environment where the community as a whole can look out for people with dementia".

Eisai already has agreements signed with medical associations and local governments in approximately 65 locations nationwide to support its further research in the dementia field.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801823231-ADNFCR
