EKF Diagnostics agrees Separation Technology Inc takeover

EKF Diagnostics has announced the takeover of Separation Technology Inc (STI), a US provider of life science technology.

The Florida-based company is a leading manufacturer of in vitro diagnostics devices for haematology testing and is known for producing UltraCrit, the first and only haematocrit/haemoglobin device to use ultrasound technology.

A maker of ultrasound instruments and tabletop centrifuges for the haematology testing market, STI also has an in-house engineering capability, including design, production support and new product development.

The acquisition will complement EKF's existing offering in the haemoglobin testing market, which includes the Hemo Control brand.

Julian Baines, chief executive officer of EKF, said: "The acquisition of STI is a great natural fit with our existing point-of-care business and UltraCrit provides us with a leading product for measuring hematocrit during blood donor screening."

This comes in the same week that the firm is demonstrating the benefits of its PointMan DNA enrichment technology at the American Association of Cancer Research annual meeting.
