EKF Diagnostics collaborator to win diabetes research award

10th June 2014

EKF Diagnostics has announced that Dr Andrzej Krolewski, one of its key collaborators, will receive the 2014 Kelly West Award in Epidemiology at the 2014 American Diabetes Association scientific sessions.

Dr Krolewski is the head of genetics and epidemiology division at the Joslin Diabetes Center and a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. He is being presented with this prestigious accolade in recognition of his significant contribution to the field of diabetes epidemiology.

The expert is the lead scientist working in collaboration with EKF's kidney biomarker team to develop tests for progressive diabetic kidney disease. He will also be delivering the Kelly West Award lecture at the event.

EKF will be in attendance at the scientific sessions, where it will be exhibiting the first of its diagnostic tests for progressive diabetic kidney disease based on the sTNFR1 biomarker originally identified by Dr Krolewski.

Julian Baines, chief executive officer of EKF Diagnostics, said: "We look forward to continuing our partnership with him and his team as they continue to develop new models for management of diabetic kidney disease and, in particular, the role of biomarkers such as sTNFR1."

This comes after the firm highlighted data from an independent study last month that demonstrated the effectiveness of the early-stage test.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801727131-ADNFCR
