Elanco launches canine otitis externa treatment Osurnia
Elanco has announced the launch of Osurnia, an easy-to-use new treatment for canine otitis externa infections.
This first-line treatment contains a unique gel formulation of three active ingredients – the antibiotic florfenicol, which is new to companion animal treatment in the UK, plus terbinafine, to inhibit the growth of yeast, and betamethasone acetate to help relieve discomfort.
Its convenient administration schedule involves two doses taken a week apart, whereas other medications require owners to treat their dogs with five to 28 doses throughout the course of treatment.
Additionally, Osurnia's innovative gel formulation provides optimal distribution of the treatment throughout the ear canal with little mess, with the pre-measured, single-dose tube ensuring the right dose every time.
Alice Laurens, dermatology marketing manager at Elanco Animal Health, said: "Osurnia is an innovative, effective treatment that is administered in just two doses, ensuring it is much more convenient for pet owners."
Otitis externa affects up to 20 percent of dogs, with ear infections being among the ten most frequent reasons for dogs to be presented to vets.
