Elanco launches new immune restorative Imrestor for dairy cows

25th July 2016

Elanco has announced the launch of Imrestor, a first-of-its-kind product for addressing transition disease in dairy cows.

The immune restorative is designed to bolster a cow's natural defences during the 60 days prior to and 30 days directly after calving, during which the animal's immune system experiences a dip.

This transition period can be extremely challenging, as cows can become more susceptible to mastitis, metritis and retained placenta, leading to serious cost consequences and implications for cow welfare and productivity.

Imrestor works by increasing the number and restoring the function of neutrophils, the primary type of white blood cell that recognises and kills harmful bacteria. It is administered with two injections – one seven days prior to the anticipated date of calving, the other within 24 hours after giving birth.

Kingsley Baxendale, ruminant marketing manager at Elanco Animal Health, said: "We're delighted that Imrestor can provide vets with a tool to help decrease the negative consequences associated with immune-related diseases like mastitis and maximise their herds' lactation potential."ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801822388-ADNFCR
