Elanco’s Comfortis receives professional recommendation as flea control aid

Elanco has announced the findings of a new survey showing the high esteem in which its flea control product Comfortis is held by animal health professionals.

Conducted among delegates at the 2014 ESVD-ECVD annual congress, the poll revealed that 79 percent of dermatologists said the chewable tablet is their first choice oral flea treatment, with 83 percent saying they are very or extremely likely to recommend it.

It was also revealed that 61 percent of general practitioners find fleas are responsible for more than 25 percent of pruritic cases they see, with 20 percent linking the parasites to more than half of pruritic cases.

Comfortis contains the novel active ingredient spinosad and is designed to start killing fleas in 30 minutes, lasting a full month thereafter.

Matthew Rowe, senior brand manager at Elanco, says: "We are delighted that those working with pruritic animals value and endorse Comfortis and that we are able to provide them with the convenience of a monthly tablet that is licensed for use in both dogs and cats."

A previous survey from late last year indicated that 93 percent of veterinary nurses who had recommended Comfortis to cat owners said the users had been either satisfied or extremely satisfied, with 98 percent stating that the same was true of dog owners.
