Elanco’s Osurnia demonstrates quality-of-life benefits in new study

27th June 2017

Elanco has highlighted the findings of a new study that demonstrate the benefits associated with its canine otitis externa treatment Osurnia.

An independent clinical study has found that Osurnia can deliver improvements in the quality of life of dogs with otitis externa and their owners that is significantly greater than when using a traditional daily treatment.

This study examined 50 dogs over a 28-day period, half of whom were treated with Osurnia, while the remaining 25 were treated at home by their owners with a daily ear drop solution and twice-weekly ear cleaning.

On day seven, there was a 57 percent increase in the quality of life for dogs receiving Osurnia, compared with 9.8 percent for the at-home treatment. For quality of life among owners, this gap was 33 percent versus four percent, respectively.

Veterinary dermatologist Dr Chiara Noli, who led the study, said: "I was stunned by just how big the difference between the two treatment groups was in the quality of life for both the dog and owner."

It was also found that cytological parameters and owner-assessed pruritus also improved more quickly with Osurnia, meaning pet owners were more satisfied with the treatment overall.
