Eli Lilly announces appointment of Robert Conley

Eli Lilly has announced the appointment of Robert Conley to the company, with Mr Conley joining the firm in January 2008 as a distinguished scholar who will focus on psychotic illnesses including schizophrenia.

Mr Conley is currently professor of psychiatry and pharmacy science at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, with his work at that institution focusing on the development of improved treatments for patients with psychotic conditions

He also has enhanced understanding on the effective and safe ways to use antipsychotic medication through his work at the Maryland Psychiatric Research Centre and the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

Alan Breier, vice-president and chief medical officer at Lilly, said: “I am very pleased that Rob has decided to join Lilly.

“He is an internationally recognised leader in schizophrenia research and will bring great technical depth and disease state knowledge to our company.”

He added that the company’s dedication to neuroscience is strong and has been enhanced with the addition of Mr Conley to the team.

In May 2007, Eli Lilly announced that Frank Deane would replace Scott Canute as president of manufacturing at the firm, with Mr Canute opting to take a leave of absence from the firm.
