Eli Lilly launches diabetes management campaign

16th March 2007

Eli Lilly, marketer of diabetes treatment Byetta (exenatide injection), has announced the launch of its Let’s Talk campaign aiming to help patients with type two diabetes manage the disease and live a healthier lifestyle, including taking medication.

The campaign incorporates a number of components, such as recipe sessions with diabetic chef Chris Smith, exercise demonstrations from fitness trainer Nikki Kimbrough and FlashCarbs flashcards to aid the counting of carbohydrates.

Additionally, attendees to promotional events will be able to participate in one-on-one talks regarding type two diabetes and the potential of Byetta as a treatment option.

Virginia Valentine, a certified diabetes educator, said: “Every day I talk with people with diabetes about leading a healthy, active lifestyle and taking the right medications.”

She added that the campaign is targeted at sufferers of type two diabetes who may not be aware of the best methods for managing their condition.

Byetta is manufactured by Amilyn Pharmaceuticals and marketed by Lily that is indicated to improve glucose control in adults.

The compound can be used in conjunction with metformin or sulfonylureas or thiazolidinediones.

Last month, Lilly announced a change in the storage instructions for Byetta, with the drug no longer requiring refrigeration after first use.
