Eli Lilly noted for environmental work

9th April 2008

Eli Lilly Clinton Laboratories has been honoured for the efforts it has made to decrease its negative impact on the environment.

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management rewarded the firm with membership in the Indiana Environmental Stewardship Program.

In order to become a member of the program, businesses are required to have an outstanding compliance record, certify that it is using an approved environmental management system and commit to further environmental projects.

One of the benefits of being an environmental steward is that firms can use a streamlined permitting process.

George Rogers, general manager at Eli Lilly, commented: “There is a very rigorous process you go through for environmental permit changes.”

He explained that “if we can find ways to do that more quickly, it allows us to be much more competitive”.
Eli Lilly is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana and is one of the top ten pharmaceutical firms in the world.
